Throughout the year, WFIS and our partner organizations present Learning Summits providing focus on a variety of issues that are of particular relevance to private school teachers, administrators and staff. Below is a list of these upcoming events.
WFIS Safety Summit: Spokane
Spokane May 4, 2017 – NEW ESD 101 in Spokane
WFIS has put together an affordable and highly informative, all-day forum for school leaders and their staff to advance all aspects of safety planning and emergency preparedness. Private school educators are committed to fostering the best practices for their school and keeping school communities secure. Be a part of the training, discussion and school improvement movement by joining fellow private school staff at Seattle Academy on Thursday May 4, 2017 from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
Keynote Presentation: What a safety plan Is and Isn’t
A safety plan in a binder on a shelf is just another earthquake hazard! This session is designed to help you elevate that safety plan into an invaluable guide to prepare for, respond to, and recover from any emergency or disaster.
Learn from keynote JoAnn Jordan:
- Components of an “excellent” emergency preparedness program for your school.
- A clear understanding what to include in your plan.
- The importance of building solid relationships between first response agencies, neighboring schools, and the surrounding community.

This all day event is orchestrated for school staff members to bring your existing School Safety Plan to get feedback.

OSPI Private Schools Summer Conferences
Each session is two days from 9am-4pm.
This year’s theme “Creating a Dynamic and Engaging Classroom” will be both active & energizing
Spokane: at Gonzaga University, June19 & 20, 2017
Seattle: at Seattle Pacific University, June 22 & 23 and August 8 & 9, 2017
Join international instructional leaders Kimberly L. Mitchell and Maggie Chumbley in exploring questions geared to refining your classroom instructional practices. Conference leaders will share five key inquiry based instructional strategies* that foster dynamic and engaging classrooms using video, small group activities, and discussions. Participants will experience a full lesson simulation modeling these strategies. Finally, time will be offered for planning, reflection, and feedback. Teachers of every grade level and subject area will leave energized, renewed, and ready for the next school year with concrete strategies they can implement right away.

Each summer, OSPI partners with Seattle Pacific University’s Center for Professional Education and Gonzaga University’s School of Education to provide a conference for private school educators. These events are FREE for all private school educators employed by State Board-Approved private schools.
OSPI will provide all training materials and free clock hours to attendees.

Co-hosted with PSESD on October 27, 2017
Join other private school administrators, teachers, technology specialists, and support staff from the preschool and K-12 educational community in hearing informative presentations from educators and entities deeply invested in education, career development and school success. Located at Puget Sound ESD, 800 Oakesdale Ave SW in Renton, WA (map).
Check-in with coffee/tea begins at 8am, followed by the general session and with keynote address at 8:30am. Attendees choose two morning break-out sessions before a delicious lunch (included in cost) followed by your choice of two afternoon breakout sessions before the closing with prize drawing at 3pm.
Private Schools Day provides continuing education Clock Hours and Merit Stars. A vendor showcase will also be on hand for participants to browse services and support opportunities are available to private schools and their staff at special discounts and rates.
WFIS is proud to co-host this annual all-day forum for private and non-public schools in our region with PSESD.
