There are over twenty private schools that are also approved as “nonpublic agencies.” These schools often operate in one-to-one or small-group settings and play a critical role in educating and supporting students with academic, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges that may not be fully addressed in traditional public schools.
Each Tuesday morning, NPA Directors meet on Zoom to share best practices, exchange stories, offer encouragement, and support one another through the unique challenges and rewards of their work.
These dedicated school leaders work hand-in-hand with the OSPI Special Education Department, district administrators, and IEP teams, collaborating to create and implement exceptional programs that reach students who may have been overlooked or underserved in other settings. Through these partnerships, they provide hope and opportunity to students who might otherwise struggle to find success. And they serve as a great example of how private schools support the educational needs of students in Washington.
