DCYF’s Ross Hunter sent an email enthusiastically talking about transitional kindergarten for 4 yr olds. See page 12 of the Integrated & Inclusive Programs Report from DCYF and OSPI.

As it is known, TK allows four-year-olds – and in some parts of the state, three-year-olds – to join in K12 classrooms that are not licensed by DCYF.

It seems that health and safety requirements have changed for what is appropriate for four-year-olds, and we would like to see these changes applied equitably to all school buildings.

WFIS plans to continue discussions with other early learning advocates about the best steps forward.
