WFIS attended the 2025 AI Summit hosted by OSPI and Microsoft in early February. The event featured AI tools designed to support school administrators, teachers, and students.
- AI Tools for Education – A padlet of tools to investigate tasks, content, etc.
- Magic School, Colleague, and School AI offer AI-driven support while incorporating necessary (HIPPA) privacy safeguards.
- Generative AI Overview – Henrik Kinberg’s YouTube video clearly introduces AI’s role in education.
Critical AI Considerations
- AI models have fixed data cutoffs; always check when data was last updated.
- AI systems use various prompt models that can be personalized with additional rules.
- Free AI tools often share user data, so avoid entering personal, identifiable information (HIPAA compliance is crucial).
- AI converts text and speech into stored numerical data, often shared across platforms.
Does Your School Have AI Guidance?
Less than 50% of summit attendees reported having AI guidelines at school. It was suggested that schools establish clear guidance to ensure responsible AI use.
The Peninsula School District’s AI Resource Psd401.net/ai provides customizable AI guidance for schools (scroll down to see Resources & FAQs). Already adopted by school districts in 10 states, this is a valuable starting point for AI policy development.
