The Professional Growth Plan (PGP) is an alternate route to licensing, earning clock hours, and building specific skills. PGPs are job-embedded, self-directed professional development. Educators set goals aligned to standards, design an action plan, collect evidence, and reflect. PGPs for certificate renewal are eligible for 25 clock hours.

PGPs are FREE for Washington educators to complete. All educators in all roles can complete PGPs, including:

  • Administrators
  • Teachers
  • Paraeducators
  • School nurses, school counselors, school psychologists, etc.

Timeline and expectations:

Only one PGP may be completed each school year between July 1 of one year and June 30 of the following year. The competency-based learning of a PGP requires the educator to apply and demonstrate skills; educators often internalize their new knowledge in ways that go beyond traditional professional development. This learning practice builds on educators’ passions and can inspire growth within their existing roles within the field.
