March 5, the BFHD team shared several updates relevant to school operations and student well-being:

  • Ongoing required school inspections and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management Plan conferences* with each school should be scheduled before the end of the school year. BFHD.WA.Gov.
  • New Dept of Health guidance on the safe placement of functionally linked playground components.
  • Student safety resources, including child passenger safety services, bike rodeo education programs, helmet distribution, and youth cannabis and commercial tobacco prevention materials.

*An IAQ Management Plan is a new state requirement for all public & private schools following the Board of Health revision of school rules. BFHD is unique in providing each school with a support conference to help them develop their IAQ Management Plan.

Health officials emphasized school preparedness for potential measles cases by reviewing symptoms, reporting protocols, and documentation requirements. Additional updates included opportunities for school-based immunization clinics, regional school safety resources, and threat assessment training through ESD 123. Also, upcoming community health and youth safety events are available for school participation.
