Cedar Park Christian School 4th grade teacher, Mrs. LaWonna Kerr was honored by Ivar’s Restaurants as Ivar’s “Teacher of the Year” for 2019. 

K-8 Student nominations/entries, in the form of written essays, are judged on the following criteria:

  • Does the essay include strong examples and details that support the student’s view that their teacher is the best?
  • Is the essay well-written?
  • Is it creative?
  • Does the essay capture the power and value of the teacher?
  • And as a bonus, students may submit photos or artwork that supports their essay.

Mrs. Kerr was nominated by CPC 5th grade student, Ashley Uusitalo. Ivar’s held an essay contest that several hundred students participated in. Ashley’s essay was chosen as the grand prize winner! Ashley’s essay mentioned Mrs. Kerr’s creative teaching style that always makes learning fun. Mrs. Kerr gives opportunity for students to challenge themselves to excel, and always takes the time to express care and concern for her students by stopping to listen and be a true friend. 

Mrs. Kerr received a $500.00 check from Ivar’s for classroom supplies! She was interviewed by a local TV station, Q13 Fox News.
