Leaders from K12 and higher education convened in Olympia this week to kick off a statewide effort to streamline the transition from high school to college using a new digital transcript system.
Funded by a Gates Foundation pilot grant, the project aims to reduce administrative burdens, improve access for students and families, and enable real-time responses to post-secondary plans.
While the initiative is being celebrated as a student-centered solution, some attendees voiced concerns about potential unintended consequences, such as an AI-led admissions process and data-driven student targeting. Organizers agreed to continue exploring these implications as the system develops. Please contact WFIS with comments on digital transcripts.
