Early Learning Directors, who meet on Thursdays, communicated and provided a feedback loop for the DCYF licensing department this week.

The background check system for early learning teachers and K12 teachers is different. It has been difficult for newly hired early learning teachers to complete their background checks and fingerprinting through the early learning system.

Last year, staff often waited six weeks to three months to get their checks back. This lag dissuades capable teachers from entering the early learning field. Idemia, the fingerprinting company, is extending hours, improving communication, and speeding up turnaround times. For example, Shoreline will have over thirty new weekly hours at its fingerprinting location.
