An Independent College Prep School (Grades 5-12)

The primary goal of the EPS Resident Teaching Program (RTP) is to identify and develop a diverse population of independent school teachers. The program is designed for both recent college graduates and individuals seeking to make a mid-career transition into the education sector. Residents engage in an immersive experience that equips them with the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind necessary to thrive in an independent school, both in the classroom and in the broader professional and family communities.

Teaching is a complex and multifaceted endeavor. Part science and part artistic expression, teaching involves a blend of technical expertise and individual style. In the context of the EPS school program focused on critical thinking, experience by doing, and integration, residents develop knowledge and skills in the following domains:

Teaching Domains
Experiential Support
Classroom Culture
Course & Lesson Design
Adolescent Development

Instructional Methods
Differentiated Learning
Assessment & Grading
Advising
Faculty mentorship
Classroom facilitation
Course & assessment design
Professional development
