Full-Time Elementary English Teacher

Start: late August, 2022

The French American School of Puget Sound is a bilingual French and English school located on Mercer Island for students in Young Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The School’s program satisfies requirements set forth by the Common Core of State Standards and the French National Curriculum from the French Ministry of Education.


FASPS is looking for a full-time Elementary English teacher and accepting applications. Elementary Teachers are responsible for implementing the mission and philosophy of the School. Subjects taught are Reading, Writing, Speaking, Mathematics, and Social Studies.


Applicants should have at least three years of prior elementary grade level teaching experience, a desire to be part of an internationally diverse community of teachers and learners and a willingness to adapt to the unique program at FASPS. A Washington State teaching certificate is not required. Successful candidates will be passionate about working with students, have knowledge of current educational practices and strategies and be able to use flexible and innovative pedagogical techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles.

Bilingual skills to include French are a plus. The ability to be employed in the United States and to pass a background check are required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with team members, parents and administration regarding curriculum, classroom activities, and student progress
  • Attend all scheduled faculty and community meetings, which may take place outside of regular school hours
  • Keep records and reports as required by the administration
  • Familiarity with procedures for emergency situations
  • Ability to work with an international and culturally diverse student population

Students and Classroom

  • Implement curriculum appropriate for grade level and appropriate and effective classroom practices and management techniques
  • Provide a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials
  • Acknowledge and plan for the diversity of abilities and learning styles within the classroom
  • Encourage the growth of the ethical character of students
  • Impart enthusiasm for learning to students
  • Provide and maintain a stimulating, safe environment
  • Practice appropriate and effective classroom management techniques
  • Supervise students in all areas of the building
  • Prepare individual progress reports for each student and prepare for Parent-Teacher conferences
  • Provide written guidelines for substitutes when needed
  • Organize and supervise field trips
  • Attend meetings


  • Maintain effective communication with parents to keep them informed of students’ performance, curriculum, and classroom activities
  • Conduct regularly scheduled yearly conferences (or as needed) with parents/guardians of each student
