We know that for many schools, the State Board of Education’s email “reminder” about health and safety inspection requirements, which can be read here, came as a surprise.
These health and safety inspections are sort of new. In the past, there was a requirement to maintain a healthy and safe environment. If a school building was new or renovated, inspection was required. However, after COVID, the health departments have been building school health and safety teams to inspect public and private schools. Some local health departments are more eager than others. Some are charging a lot of money for their inspections. Some do their inspections every three years, and others (Pierce County) do them every two.
