The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), known as The Nation’s Report Card, informs education policy at the local, state, and federal levels. Private school participation is essential to ensuring these data reflect the full K–12 landscape.

Private schools represent 24% of schools nationwide and educate 9% of U.S. students. When private school students participate in NAEP, they help provide a complete and accurate picture of student achievement—one that includes private education in policy discussions and decision-making.

NAEP 2026 will conduct digital assessments in math and reading (grades 4 and 8) and civics and U.S. history (grade 8) between January 26 and March 20, 2026. Participation is free, administered by NAEP representatives, and involves only a small, selected group of students. Results are reported only in aggregate; no school- or student-level data are released.

If your school is selected, please participate and help ensure private schools have a strong voice in the national education conversation.
