Free Literacy Screenings & Educator Workshops from the Hamlin Robinson School Learning Center

Free Literacy Screenings began this week!

  • Free literacy screenings for up to 300 King County students in grades 2-5
  • All screening uses the WA state-approved STAR Early Literacy Screening tool
  • Screenings are available in English and Spanish
  • Along with screening results, families will receive actionable reports to help them advocate for their student’s educational needs

Along with free literacy screenings in English and Spanish, HRS Literacy Link also offers free educator workshops that will give teachers strategies to support struggling readers. Register HERE for the next workshop, When Students Struggle With Reading, in March 2025.

 

Fitting in Financial Education: From Rent to Roommates – Empowering Students with Housing Knowledge

December 12 from 4 -5 pm, free remote training

From Rent to Roommates will focus on housing, a major component of the average budget. Educators will explore data on the current housing shortage in Washington, gain confidence in leading discussions about housing, and learn how to prepare students for independent living. Lesson topics will include choosing apartments, understanding lease agreements, and effective communication with roommates. Participants will leave with valuable tools and resources to help students navigate these challenges and feel empowered about their financial futures. Register HERE.

Teaching about the American Response to the Holocaust through Holocaust Center for Humanity

Virtual program on Thursday, February 13, from 4-5 pm

Dr. Greene, adjunct professor of History at Northwestern University and subject matter expert at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, will discuss the responses of the American people and government to the ongoing persecution of Jews in Nazi-Occupied Europe. Participants will be introduced to classroom-ready lesson plans that explore what shaped American policies and responses to Nazism, as well as the humanitarian refugee crisis it provoked during the 1930s and 1940s.
