The Private School Advisory Committee (PSAC) recently convened a productive meeting co-led by John Mishra, Assistant Superintendent at OSPI, and Debbie Schindler, chair of the PSAC and a private school principal. Key discussions included proposed rulemaking that would grant boarding schools an additional year to meet licensing requirements, provided they are not exempt through accreditation.
Members also explored the importance of flexibility in private school graduation requirements to better serve diverse student needs. Accreditation standards were another focal point, as PSAC is responsible for establishing the common standards for accrediting organizations. To support this work, a small group of dedicated PSAC members volunteered to develop the framework over the next year.
