In early December, the WA State Board of Education moved forward to approve the proposed rules to private school accreditation. These rules would allow private schools to be exempt from Department of Children, Youth, and Family requirements if a State Board-recognized accreditor accredits the school and its student living accommodations. These changes were prompted by the signing of ESSB 5515 into law during the 2023 legislative session.

A public hearing will be scheduled after January 22, 2025, before these rules can be formally adopted. The Board will vote on adopting the rules during its February meeting.
