With the rise in pertussis cases in the last month and the anticipated spread of measles, schools are urged to prepare for communicable disease outbreaks.

Key updates:

  • Middle school TDAP compliance remains a challenge.
  • Schools may require staff immunization records.
  • A template letter to help staff document immune status is being developed.
  • SCHD requested input on the best methods- social media, paper flyers, QR codes, trusted community spaces- for engaging families with immunization outreach.
  • Schools should plan for potential MMR exposure: identify a clinic space, a public health contact, and available support staff.
  • Immunization materials are now available in 19 languages on their website.
