The State Board of Education (SBE) reported an increase in unsubmitted enrollment reports this year—from just three missing reports last year to 44 for Nov 2024. This was attributed to changes in website wording and reduced follow-up efforts to schools.

WFIS emphasized the importance of presenting enrollment data clearly to prevent misinterpretation by the media, legislators, agencies, and the public. To avoid misinterpreting the annual enrollment report data, SBE prepared this research brief. SBE intends to explore potential improvements to how the annual data is presented to the public and address future reporting challenges.

The discussion also delved into the complexities of defining online programs, noting the rise of hybrid homeschool models and the shifting landscape of online education post-COVID.

The next SBE & Private School Leaders meeting will focus on accreditation updates, policy adjustments, and preparations for the upcoming legislative session.
