On Monday October 21, WFIS and leaders from constituent groups met with SBE’s Executive Director, Randy Spaulding, and Private Schools Manager, Nicole Mulhausen.
Nicole updated us on the completion of the private school enrollment report to date. Randy explained the rulemaking process for boarding school accreditation. The SBE is working to ensure the accreditation standards are “comparable” to the licensing rules’ expectations. The SBE decides what “comparable” means.
Private school leaders relayed the complications of DCYF oversight of private schools’ early learning programs and now boarding schools. Public early learning programs are not subject to DCYF’s costly, labor-intensive licensing processes and facility demands, creating inequity between public and private preschools.
