All teachers working in early learning programs should have privacy protections to ensure that their personal information is not publicly disclosed. At a minimum, teachers who are not employed by the state should be allowed to keep their personal information private. WFIS is urging Governor Ferguson and the Department of Children, Youth, and Families to protect early learning teachers’ personal information.

Currently, DCYF requires teachers to submit their home address to a system called MERIT without sufficient notice or an opt-out option. The DCYF policy has created an unsafe environment for early learning educators, most of whom are women. These teachers deserve respect and protection from being approached at home.
