King County Health Department will answer school inspection questions

Staff from the King County Health Department will join the weekly State Board of Education Q&A to address questions about inspections requirements or protocols. All schools are welcome, though King County schools are especially encouraged to attend. No pre-registration required.

King County Private Schools – Funding Opportunity for PCB Lighting Replacement
The WA Dept of Ecology is offering grants up to $20,000 to replace older lighting that may contain toxic PCBs.
Who Is Eligible?
- Public, private, and Tribal K–12 schools
- Early learning or daycare centers
- Single-use facilities (only) located in Washington State
Contact Kimi Matsushima at 509-413-8719 or kimi.matsushima@ecy.wa.gov to discuss your interest. After this, she will send the application (including a project plan and cost estimate). Once approved, you must begin work within 90 days, then submit a voucher with receipts for reimbursement after completion.
Does Your School Likely Have PCB-Containing Lights?
You may be at risk if your facility:
- Was built or renovated before 1980
- Has not had a full lighting upgrade
- Still uses older magnetic ballasts or T12 lamps
