The Heads of Independent Schools accredited by the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) met this week for their biannual meeting. They offered a combination of hard-hitting updates on federal and state law, presented by attorney Justin Perillo, General Counsel at the National Association of Independent Schools, and Karen Kalzer, Education Attorney at Helsell Fetterman. These sessions were counter-balanced with other sessions on techniques to bring joy and appreciation to support sustainability in the role of school leadership.
The attorneys addressed several timely topics, including strategies for minimizing potential legal issues related to DEI-focused programs; recent changes affecting international students on F-1 visas and international teachers on H-1B visas; and best practices for managing potential ICE visits on school campuses.
Please contact WFIS for more information on these topics or any related concerns.
