The Washington Federation of Independent Schools Board of Directors met at Evergreen Christian School in Olympia, WA, for its winter board meeting. Directors addressed governance updates, focusing on bylaw revisions, strategic plan tactics, and administrative improvements.
WFIS has set a key goal to determine the most effective staffing model. To address the increasing number of legislative actions impacting private education, the organization has hired an additional lobbyist with extensive experience in Washington State to work alongside Suzie in Olympia this session. WFIS is focusing on defeating the union’s efforts to control early learning staff through bills HB 1288 and SB 5062. Additionally, WFIS is advocating for HB 1618, a bill that would offer free college credits to high school students who complete College in High School courses. These efforts are part of WFIS’s engagement in over ten active bills during this legislative session.
WFIS Board members are committed to holding their board meetings across the state. They plan to hold their fall session in Spokane with the intention of connecting with legislators, local politicians, and the region’s private schools.
