The WFIS Board recently met via Zoom to ensure the participation of all members in light of busy spring schedules. During the meeting, the board bid a heartfelt farewell to two dedicated board members: Erin Hart, Superintendent of Three Rivers Schools in Longview, and Connor Geraghty, Assistant Superintendent for Mission and Catholic Identity with the Archdiocese of Seattle. We are deeply grateful for their commitment and service.
Key Updates and Decisions:
- WFIS Annual Budget: The board confirmed the annual budget, which includes funding for lobbyists who will work closely with the Executive Director to advocate for private schools in Olympia during the upcoming legislative session.
- WFIS Bylaws Update: The board updated the WFIS Bylaws to reflect the organization’s current management structure.
- Partner Presentation: Cathy Tooley from Tools for Success, our partner organization, shared insights on how she and her team support school goals. Her presentation was well-received and added perspective to school improvement.
- Education Choice for Children Act Discussion: A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the implications of the Education Choice for Children Act and its potential impact on Washington schools. The board carefully considered whether and how WFIS should engage with the program moving forward.
The meeting was productive, with meaningful conversations shaping WFIS’s future advocacy and ongoing efforts on behalf of private education in Washington.
