WFIS joined more than 200 other community advocates, childcare centers, moms & families in celebrating the signing of the Fair Start for Kids Act this morning of Friday, May 7.  It was an amazing gathering with SO many people who have fought so hard for many years.  The festivities kicked off with a heartwarming video that movingly shined the spotlight on child care and child care providers.

Senator Billig drove home the message advocates have been spreading far and wide all legislative session “high quality childcare and early learning is THE SOLUTION to all community problems“.  Senator Wilson addressed that for too long people have not realized how much support our childcare providers give to the greater community and conveyed that the FairStart Act is “an economic recovery program” that gives a boost to families across all spectrums.

Governor Jay Inslee proclaimed today as Childcare Provider Awareness Day in the State of WA just before signing this most historic piece of legislation.  The Governor emphasized that “Childcare providers are unsung heroes everyday!”  He recognized their support and love of our children is what allows our state economy to function and our families to thrive.

This bill will help our families and children – big time.”  The Governor added how this is an equity bill as important for our society as any piece of legislation that has been worked on in recent years.  As the Governor signed SB5237, he stated it was “for the cutest children in America”.  The celebration had hundreds of chat-cheers from all corners of the state!  And like all the best parties, it closed with guitar playing and clever serenades by the immensely talented, Eli Rosenblatt,  while loads of kids joined in through their Zoom screens excitedly bouncing for joy to “Wiggle Like A Worm!”
