The Meade District School Board recently voted on an amendment that would restrict trans female athletes from participating in girls’ athletics. This does not impact current competitions between schools in Meade District. The process for amendments to be considered by the WIAA Board is outlined on page 11 of the WIAA handbook. It is a thoughtful process that includes discussion by the Executive Committee. Schools can review the WIAA transgender athlete amendment and provide feedback at the district and executive levels if desired.
WFIS will not take an official stance on this amendment due to the diversity of private schools’ perspectives. This issue requires honest dialogue between school leaders to support the athletes participating in school athletics, and we know the WIAA will promote this kind of conversation within their Executive Board.
