Why WFIS?
Founded in 1970, WFIS is Washington’s advocacy organization for independent and private schools. Five decades of experience and our unique role in the state’s education community makes WFIS a vital resource for private school stakeholders: the institutions themselves, the students educated by them, their families, as well as children and parents looking for alternatives to public schooling.
WFIS is guided by the core values of educational freedom and independence, diversity, and cooperation and collaboration. Our work ensures that private & independent students and their families are considered at each step of the educational policy-making journey.
WFIS convenes superintendents, principals, educators, and advocacy organizations to protect the required independence for private schools. As a WFIS Member, your school community has a voice in the creation of the policies that directly affect you.
