Kennedy Catholic High School is a private Catholic high school located in Burien, Washington. It is the mission of Kennedy Catholic to cultivate a diverse community of learners who encounter Christ, pursue excellence, and lead with love.

 

JOB SUMMARY

To teach multiple sections and varying levels of American Sign Language to students in grades 9-12. Kennedy Catholic maintains a robust enrollment in our ASL classes, levels 1-3. All qualified Deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing candidates are invited to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience
·      Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field

·      Candidates with a comparable level of academic training and demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language may be considered

·      Must be fluent in ASL and may be asked to take an ASL proficiency exam*

·      Master’s degree or higher (or willingness to attain) preferred

·      Familiarity and expertise with educational technology

·      Recent classroom experience; preferably in a high school setting

·      Washington State Teaching Certificate or eligibility for Washington Vocational Certificate in ASL and willingness to keep certification current is preferred

The ideal candidate will possess the skills and abilities to:

·      Teach a broad range of levels of American Sign Language

·      Integrate and cultivate and understanding of and appreciation for Deaf Culture and Community into the curriculum

·      Bring a faith-filled background to Kennedy Catholic’s ASL courses

·      Enhance students’ abilities and love for ASL and appreciation for Deaf Culture

·      Work with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and learning abilities

·      Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners

·      Develop positive, appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, parents and colleagues

·      Effectively utilize educational technology to enhance the learning of students

·      Use data to inform instructional practices

·      Work collaboratively within the department on curriculum and assessments

·      Be flexible and resourceful

·      Be organized and an effective communicator with all members of the school community

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

·      Salary dependent upon experience, certification and education according to Kennedy Catholic’s faculty compensation schedule. For the 2023-2024 school year, a teacher’s salary ranges between $52,750 and $100,120, The salary schedule for 2024-2025 will be available by late April 2024.

·      In-building child/dependent tuition support

·      Opportunities to participate/assist with a wide array of co-curricular programs, including athletics, arts, campus ministry, and other clubs and activities for additional modest stipends
