As you know, the SBH updated the environmental safety rules for all schools. WFIS was part of the year-long effort, and through extensive conversation, debate, and negotiation, helped shape the current laws.
The WA State Department of Health sent a reminder to schools this week regarding some of the 2025 updates. WFIS wants to be sure you see the most relevant updates:
- Recommendation to not connect extension cords.
- Allowance for schools to stock epinephrine auto-injectors.
- Encouragement to separate hand sinks and drinking fountains in future remodels or new construction.
- Recommendation of prompt removal of animal waste from school grounds.
- Recommendation that landscaping does not increase hazardous features.
