Applications for the 2026–27 cycle of the Waste Not Washington School Awards, a statewide program supporting school-based sustainability efforts, will open August 1.
The awards recognize and fund projects that reduce waste and expand reuse, recycling, and composting practices in school communities. Individual schools may receive up to $10,000 per project, with a total of $100,000 available statewide each year. No matching funds are required. Schools are eligible for one award per cycle, with limits in place to ensure equitable distribution across Washington.
This program offers schools an opportunity to advance environmental stewardship while directly supporting student learning and campus operations. Funding can be used to implement or expand sustainability initiatives that align with both educational goals and waste reduction efforts.
Schools interested in applying should review the full guidelines and application detailsthrough the Department of Ecology and join the program email list for updates.
