WFIS was delighted to spend a day with school leaders at the beautiful Alderbrook Resort on Hood Canal for the annual Northwest Association of Independent Schools Heads of School Spring Retreat. This much-anticipated gathering blends inspiring professional development with a heartfelt send-off for departing school leaders. This year, the community also took a moment to honor NWAIS Executive Director Mark Crotty as he transitions out of his role.
A highlight of the day was the Fireside Chat between Mark Crotty and Tom Olverson, author of Leading Through Strategy. Their conversation offered a compelling look at the nuances between strategic planning and true strategic thinking—reminding attendees that a plan is only as strong as the vision behind it.
In the afternoon, WFIS hosted an informal chat on politics and policy, drawing a small but passionate group to discuss the ongoing challenges around early learning licensing. It was a lively and candid exchange—just the kind of thoughtful dialogue these retreats are known for.
Suzie thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with so many familiar faces, and we’re thankful to NWAIS for the warm invitation and opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event.
