On 11-19-24, Snohomish County Health Department team members hosted a meeting for schools.
In support of public health, the Snomish Department requires a school to submit an absenteeism report if the number of students absent at the school level (not by classroom) exceeds 10%. Snohomish >10% School Absenteeism Reporting Form*
- Complete the report if your school has multiple days in a row of more than 10% absenteeism. You do not have to fill this out for a classroom at 10%+.
- Only one form per week needs to be submitted, even if several days are above the threshold.
- This SCHD tracking system monitors the region’s non-notifiable illnesses. Other counties may not require this. Some use sewage testing to gather communicable disease data.
Letter explaining the SCHD School Vaccine Safety Net Program.
This program is for kids at risk of noncompliance who need a vaccine dose to stay in school. The School Vaccine Safety Net Program chart outlines details about each site. The goal is to offer one location per city. In the future, the program hopes to involve pharmacies.
Tidbits from the Snohomish County nurse:
Lingering coughs could be pertussis – cough is often the only noticeable symptom! Have the person get tested.
Rash Illnesses – Sometimes rashes that look like chickenpox are another skin issue, so have the doctor test and not just visually confirm. (This confusion was a big issue for a school last week!)
