Schools in the Tacoma/ Pierce district received notification from the Environmental Health Department that the department will adopt new regulations into the Environmental Health Code. They state that the new regulations will allow them to “Improve regulatory transparency and streamline administrative processes like enforcement and appeal procedures.”

WFIS recommends that schools in these Districts sign up today to be a part of the school advisory workgroup to ensure that schools are involved in any discussion around inspection enforcement and appeals changes.

Please contact communitysafety@tpchd.org, ask to be on the advisory workgroup, and confirm that these new regulations will be developed with the consultation of the advisory committee before decisions are made.

The Tacoma/Pierce County Environmental Safety Department is still getting its feet under it. They need our schools’ guidance. Showing up and leading the way will help with the trust and stability of the relationship between the health department and the schools.
